BlackBerry Pro5 Version Theme by Natemz

I will admit that I am a "theme junkie".

Thus I am qualified to write a review on Natemz's newest creation, BlackBerry Pro v5 for the BlackBerry Storm.

BlackBerry Pro v5 has evolved from four previous versions in the Pro line, and Yes, I have had them all !! Every version has improved over the previous version, which always surprised me, as I didn't think that was possible. This NEW v5 is no exception.

I, along with the rest of the Staff here at BBOS, were treated with being able to beta test v5. The very first thing I noticed was the vibrant color, and the sharpness, and clarity of all of the icons. The next thing I was pleased to see was how very fast, and smooth the transitions were on this gem. This is an extremely attractive theme.

But, as the "theme junkie" I have admitted being, I have had many other "pretty" themes on my Storm, and some not so much. Good looks alone are not enough for me to keep a theme on my BB. Functionality, and ease of use are the main-stays for me. I don't like to have to make multiple moves to activate what I need. On BlackBerry Pro v5 I have access to 22 icons and hotspots on the main screen, right at my fingertips. There are 11 preset BlackBerry applications on the dual launch bar at the very bottom of the main screen. Messages, SMS, BBM, calendar, contacts, and browser on the first one. Options, music, pictures, memopad, voice notes, and calculator on the second one. Above that there are 5 user defined icons that disappear with a touch. There is a QuickLaunch hotspot at the top of the screen, and a hotspot for applications menu on the lower half of the screen. The top banner has a very nice battery meter, profiles, clock, and manage connections slots. The main screen has a Weather / OCD slot in the upper left corner. If that's not enough Nate made us a 10 entry hidden today area that is very clear, and very sharp.

Wait....I don't want to forget this...it's available in 7 vibrant colors !!!

Can you tell I like this beauty yet ?

As a self-proclaimed theme junkie, I couldn't begin to guess how much money I have spent on themes over the last couple years, and I hope my wife never finds out, but she wouldn't mind this one at all, because Nate has done all this exceptional work to create this fantastic theme and is giving it to all his friends here at BBOS absolutely FREE !!

I've only written about the Storm version of BlackBerry Pro v5 as this is the only BB I have.BlackBerry Pro v5 is available also for the Tour and for the Bold !!

I want to personally thank Nate for his obvious hard work and also his dedication to BBOS and all it's members. Thank you.

Now, everybody grab yourself a copy of BlackBerry Pro v5 !! The hardest part will be determining which of the 7 colors is your favorite !!

Mine is blue.

Google Sync App updated to 0.7.3

Google Sync 73Daryl let me know that there has been yet another incremental update to Google Sync. The latest update is 0.7.3 which is just slightly up from the previous 0.7.2 released in March. Once again it has no change log so we can only guess at what was added. Definitely worth checking out the update since I have heard the previous version had some reconciliation issues.

You can download the update at m.google.com/sync from your BlackBerry Browser.

Let us know what you find!

Read Articles later with Instapaper for BlackBerry

As part of my daily reading regimen, I often come across articles that I want to read later. They’re either long or otherwise don’t fit with what I’m reading at the moment. This used to involve keeping the tab open until I got around to reading it. Problem is, oftentimes browser tabs can eat up too much memory, eventually causing the browser to crash. If it’s on a site that automatically reloads every minute or so, forget about it. It’s just a huge pain. On the suggestion of a friend I tried outInstapaper. It installs a bookmarklet in your browser which you can use to set aside everything you want to read at a later time, allowing you to avoid your browser’s clunky bookmark system. This type of application is even more useful on a BlackBerry, so when I learned that Emerick hadreleased a BlackBerry version of Instapaper, I was all over it.

Once you install the application it adds a Send to Instapaper item to your browser menu. Whenever you run across an article that you want to read later, just hit the menu button and select that option. Then, when you’re back in front of your computer you can go back and read it.

This fits particularly well with BlackBerry. Some pages just don’t render properly in the BlackBerry browser, making them difficult to read. Other times, the article is just too long to read in a mobile format. The ability to send it to your computer later, with one easy step, makes reading articles a ton easier.

One neat aspect I’ve enjoyed about Instapaper is that your items create an RSS feed. When you send something to Instapaper to read later, in other words, you can have that sent directly to your favorite RSS reader. That, to me, is what makes Instapaper worth it. If it just bookmarked my items, well, it’d be marginally more useful than my browser bookmarks. But the RSS integration is what makes this an excellent service.

Formula 1 App Available for Blackberry

WooHOoo! We're literally just hours away from the official start of the 2010 Formula 1 season with the first Friday Practice about to kick off in Bahrain. And to make this year's practice sessions, qualifying and races even more engaging to watch on tv BlackBerry owners can now download the Official Formula1.com Live Timing App and follow the lap details from their device. Features include:

•Live Timing: The main timing screen lets you track the progress of every driver, from their position and best lap time to their latest sector times and lap count. Other features include a track status indicator, informing you of yellow/red flags and safety car phases, plus straight-line speeds and text commentary.
•Circuit Data: The circuit data screen lets you know what conditions the drivers are facing out on the circuit, with the current air and track temperatures, rainfall, air pressure and humidity levels, plus wind speed and direction. Graphs also allow you to see how conditions have changed throughout the session.
•Additional Features: The Official Live Timing Application isn't just about the current race. Other features include results for every session of the current season, the season calendar, timetables for every Grand Prix and the current championship standings.
To download, just visit mobile.formula1.com from your BlackBerry's web browser. The app is free of charge, but you will need to register at formula1.com to take advantage of the app all season long (you can use the app for one race weekend without having to register). At 1.1 megabytes it's a fairly heavy app by BlackBerry standards (I'm sure F1 fans won't mind!), but from the few minutes I've spent on it so far it seems to be a well-built app. The true test will come once the cars hit the track though.

As for the 2010 season, I think we're in for a good one. Some of the rule changes are a bit wonky but should hopefully make for better race action. And with Michael Schumacher back in the sport (albeit not in a Ferrari) and with some very competitive team driver pairings, there's going to be a lot of drama and action both on and off the track. Any picks on who wins this year? Sound off in the comments! I already have my race ticket and trip booked to hit up the Grand Prix of Canada in Montreal in June, so if you're going to be there let me know and we'll do a CrackBerry/F1 Fan Meetup! Enjoy the app, and enjoy the season!

Blackberry Score Mobile Updated

One of our BBOS members informed us today that one of my favorite apps received a new update. Score Mobile, a sports fan necessity, has been bumped up to v1.3.2.6. I do not know much about the difference in the new update. I do know that it is running smoother, so I must assume the update was back-ended with some bug fixes. With Score Mobile you can view up-to-the-minute scores, news, stats, leaderboards and a whole lot more. There are even live blogs available for certain games. Coverage includes: MLB, PGA, NFL, NCAAF, CFL, NASCAR, NHL, NBA, MLS and EPL, and more to come. Best of all, the app is free!!!! If you are even remotely interested in sports you need to get your hands on Score Mobile as soon as you can click the link below.

Blackberry Twitter and LinkedIn Official Release is near

The intense wait is nearing an end. According to RIM, two highly anticipated applications are approaching a public release. RIM recently pushed out a newsletter which retains information regarding the release of Twitter for Blackberry as well as LinkedIn for Blackberry. They do not specify exactly when the release dates are but they do however state that "two of your favorite business apps will arrive in Blackberry App World soon." This is excellent for those of you who like to use the RIM official software instead of the 3rd party applications. The newsletter while previously stated doesn’t provide an exact release date; it does however provide different ways that you can be notified of the release when it is officially open to the public. Either by following @Blackberry on twitter or by adding your email address to their notification list. We have provided links for your convenience below. Let’s hope this monumental day comes sooner than later!

Now Available! BlackBerry Pro v4! 95xx Edition - by Natemz

The wait is over! BlackBerry Pro v4 is finally ready. Many additions have been added to this release. I listened to the complaints on BBPro v3 and incorporated them in this version. So if you loved version 3 then there is no reason you won't love version 4. And of course, as with all my themes, it's completely free! See below for a quick rundown of features.

Whats New in Version 4?
New redesigned bottom launch bar. There is now 2 available launch bars. Just tap the bottom right corner to switch bars.
New 10 icon Hidden Dock
New icon set. Many users wanted less of a monotone look so icons are now full color.
Profiles icon now in top banner (by popular demand)
Built to run on OS 5.0
QuickLaunch hot spot
Wallpaper friendly (also works great with the BerryWeather Homescreen)
New custom made wallpapers
2 Black & White versions to choose from. BW1 has full color icons. BW2 has black & white icons.
Many small UI bug fixes
Fonts now follow the setting in Options>Screen/Keyboard
All the great features from version 1,2 & 3
