New purported next-generation iPhone parts photos show fully assembled device

You’ll remember that 9to5Mac was the first to show photos of purported next-generation iPhone parts. Since then, many of the details – including the smaller dock connector – were affirmed by multiple mainstream reports. Unsurprisingly, as the new iPhone moves into production, more of these parts are starting to leak out to more repair shops.

 

Today, repair shop iLab has posted its own photos , but these images apparently showcase a fully assembled body. The new photos give a clear look at what a black, fully-assembled next-generation iPhone might look like when it ships to customers this fall. The repair shop also has some photos of other individual components like home buttons and volume keys.

Photos of Complete Next-Generation iPhone Enclosure Leaked

Japanese website iLab has posted a set of high-resolution photos  (via CydiaBlog ) of what is alleged to be the next-generation iPhone. 


CydiaBlog gives this assessment  of the images: 

The leaked parts shows the bigger screen, different internals (such as a new flex cable holding the Home button in place), and the camera modules (front and rear). The camera module cutout looks to be larger, there is an enhanced version of speaker and microphone configuration at the bottom, new smaller dock connector (instead of 30-pin Dock Connector, 16-pin connector could be introduced). Another notable design change in the new iPhone front panel shows the FaceTime camera has been moved to a centered position above the earpiece speaker (it is currently to left of the earpiece in iPhone 4S and iPhone 4).

The photographs mirror reports from this past May  that the next iPhone would sport a taller 4" screen, but would remain the same width. The next iPhone is expected to be released this fall along with iOS 6.

New iPhone5 mockup teases at iPhone Air

iPhone 5 mockups are always a mixed bag. They’re certainly fun to look at and they help to quell our excitement until the actual device comes out. However, most of the time they instill us with a false hope by showing us insanely cool devices that will most likely never make it out of the designer’s imagination. Such is the case with the iPhone Air.

CiccareseDesign, an Italian website, has published designs for what they are calling the iPhone Air. This thing takes many design cues from the MacBook Air including an aluminum backing and tapered body.

One thing I’m not too keen on is the screen. It definitely seems larger than the current iPhone screen, but I think it looks silly with absolutely NO bezel… there’s gotta be something surrounding the screen. Take a look at the rest of the images below and let me know if you agree.

 

Other than that, though, this mockup is definitely one of the sleekest ones I’ve seen. I just wish we could get some actual evidence about the real iPhone 5!

Image: Possible iPhone 5 case shows it to be thinner, wider and longer

Here’s another round of cases that are rumoured to be for the upcoming iPhone 5. Unconfirmed pictures of a silicone case and a hard case reveal that the next iPhone might shape out to be 5-inches tall and 2.8-inches wide (iPhone 4 is 4.5 inches and 2.31 inches), so most likely a bigger screen and overall thinner… just like all the previous reports stated. In addition, 9to5Mac states that there’s a slight “tear drop” in the case design, implying that the iPhone 5 might go “thick to thin from top to bottom”.

As for all the ports and buttons, the speakers and USB port are still at the bottom, while the case shows the ringer switch has moved away from the volume buttons to the right hand side. Basically everywhere else stays the same.  A bigger, thinner and wider Apple iPhone… surely Samsung will be comparing its design to the Galaxy S II. A few more pics are after the break:

iPhone 5 concept looks amazing!

Unlike the iPhone 4, which was photographed, video-taped, and sitting in a bar two months before the official launch, the iPhone 5 is proving to be much more elusive. However, thanks to graphic designer, Guilherme Schasiepen, we can get a glimpse of what the next-gen iPhone might look like. And, if Mr. Schasiepen has his way, the iPhone 5 will be one slick cellphone.

The design featured in his mock-ups focuses on what users want – like a 4 inch screen, a thinner and lighter body, and hidden sensors (on the white version). The concept also features some things that are a necessity for the next iteration of the device, like a re-designed antenna. What’s even more amazing is that even though the device is thinner (0.28 inches thin), it’s still able to pack an 8 megapixel camera that captures 1080p video (that’s why it’s a concept!).

Apple releasing two iPhone models in September?

Is the next iPhone going to be called the iPhone 5, or the iPhone 4S? It depends on which Apple rumors you believe–some think that the new smartphone will be completely overhauled with a new design and internals, others think that it will just be a beefed-up iPhone. However, one analyst thinks that there might be two models on the horizon.

CNN Money reports:

In a note issued early Monday, Deutsche Bank’s Chris Whitmore is telling clients to expect both — an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S.

“With Nokia and RIMM struggling,” he writes, “the time is right for Apple to aggressively penetrate the mid range smart-phone market (i.e. $300-500 category) to dramatically expand its [total addressable market] and market share.”

The idea is that the iPhone 5 will be the new model, the next iteration of the Apple smartphone, and the 4S model will be a slightly more powerful version of the current model intended to sell for budget-conscious users. It’s not unusual for an older version of the Apple smartphone to be sold at budget prices when a new model comes out (i.e. the 8GB iPhone 3GS for $49 when the new iPhone was released).

It’s an opportunity for Apple to hold a wider range of the market – smartphone users who want the latest and greatest, and those who simply want the conveniences of a smartphone without the hefty price tag to come along with it.

The rumors swirling around the iPhone 5 have ranged from the processor it will use, a new display, a radical new design, the types of flash units its camera will employ and even its size. An infographic released last week does a nice job of rounding up some of the rumors and giving each one a percentage of likelihood.

If the new Apple smartphone is really coming this fall, we’re just two short months away from learning whether any of these rumors hold water, or if they’re just as wild as they’ve ever been in the past.
