Bed Bugs Hit Swanky Juicy Couture in NYC

Via www.technorati.com
It’s been widely reported that bedbugs are running rampant through New York, as well as many other large metropolitan areas. What started as a residential issue soon became a problematic situation for retail stores in New York City, with large retailers such as Niketown being forced to close and fumigate. The swanky 5th Avenue is not immune to what was once known as a “lower-class” problem.
Recently, the trendy Juicy Couture retail store, located in Manhattan, was forced to close its doors after employees found bedbugs within the merchandise. Juicy Couture, owned by Liz Claiborne Inc., specializes in women’s clothing, handbags, and accessories, and posts nearly $200 million in annual sales.

"We have taken all the necessary steps to eradicate them," the company said in a written statement. "The safety and well-being of our customers and employees has been our top priority throughout this process, and we thank everyone for their patience and understanding,"
All merchandise was removed and treated from the 15,000 square foot clothing store, by a local exterminating company, closing the store for several days. According to the National Pest Management Association, calls to exterminators regarding bed bug problems have increased 81 percent since 2000.
Management has let customers know that they may return earlier purchased merchandise if they are concerned.
